UN pressure for abortion
Heavy pressure on tiny country

The United Nations is putting heavy pressure on a tiny Southern European Catholic country with less than 70,000 citizens because the country does not allow abortion.

In July the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women criticized Andorra—a country located between France and Spain—for retaining laws that stipulate prison terms for women who procure abortions, as well as stiffer terms for the doctors who perform them. The UN committee also complained that the country’s educational system is dominated by Catholic parochial schools, which do not provide classroom sex-education programs.
