Former hostages unite in prayer
Anniversary of attack on Catholic parish

Archbishop Isaias Duarte Cansino of Cali celebrated a Mass with 175 former hostages of the rebel National Liberation Army (ELN) on May 30, to mark the anniversary of the date when the hostages were taken in a rebel raid on a local Catholic parish church.

“This is not only a time for thanksgiving, it is also a time for forgiveness, because that is the only way to accept God’s love in our lives,” said Archbishop Duarte during the homily. “Life and freedom are the two greatest gifts man has, and now that those have been recovered, you must become witnesses of the love of God and reach spiritual maturity by letting go any rancor from our souls.”
